About This Site...

First, thanks for visiting. I hope you'll find interesting information on research being conducted on meditation and perhaps some insight that could motivate or further your own practice.

What sort of information will you find on this site?

Here I'll muse about my yoga practice as well as summarize research articles on yoga and meditation.

About me

I've been practicing yoga for 8 years, the last 5 has been dedicated to the ashtanga vinyasa method. During that time I've been reading numerous text that describe yoga anatomy, physiology of asana, and meditation. (I hope to review some here in the future.)

I have a PhD in psychology so you'll notice that influence on the blog entries. I conducted my postgraduate research projects in behavioural neuroscience labs. This is a branch of psychology that links biological changes in the brain to cognition (mental processes) and then behaviour. My research projects since then have been much the same.

I find it interesting that in the East the practice of yoga has been improving health for over a millennia. The translations of the yoga sutras by Patanjali read like a manual for understanding human cognition and liberation from mental suffering. These are exactly the issues facing current neuroscientists and we've only just started to realise the potential of meditation.

About the research I like to summerise

I'm interested in finding research that 1) shows meditation induced anatomical and physiological alterations in the brain and then linking this directly to facilitating, or understanding, the practice of meditation. 2) Finding research that demonstrates how meditation can induce long-term changes in how we perceive or respond to the world. 3) Describe research showing how meditation can improve mental health.

Overall, I hope this site will encourage more people to practice or facilitate people on their current yoga journey.

With heart... namaste
